Welcome to The Arts Homepage
One of the school's foremost curricular objectives is a balanced program in which the arts play a significant and well-integrated role. In order to achieve this goal, the Arts Department offers a wide variety of courses in four disciplines: Visual Arts, Theater Arts, Music, and Dance. Beginning, intermediate and advanced levels of work are possible in each discipline. Entry-level classes provide an introduction to the art form, build technical skills, include instruction in basic theory, and develop skills in appreciation and analysis.
Most of the semester-long arts courses receive 1/4 unit credit. Courses above the entry-level classes may be repeated for additional credit. Each semester one or more academically-oriented courses are offered for 1/2 unit to upper-level students. The graduation requirement is one unit, which may be taken as four 1/4 unit classes or two 1/4 unit classes plus one 1/2 unit course. Participation in at least two arts disciplines is required.
During the school year, various collaborative projects are undertaken by the visual and performing arts classes. These include the Arts Evenings, Visual Arts and Dance collaborations, the biannual Spring Musical, International Day, and the Diversity Evening. Performances and art exhibitions occur throughout the year.
