Advanced Projects in Art
Course Units: 0.25
This studio art course is for seniors (and second-semester juniors by special arrangement) with a strong background in visual arts who want to study on a deeper level and make greater advances in their work. Students have a hand in developing technical assignments and thematic projects in drawing, painting, mixed media, and printmaking. They also have time to pursue topics of particular interest to them. Focus is on the development of personal style and content in the individual’s work. Throughout the semester, 20th-century and contemporary styles and techniques are studied to stimulate new ideas, build a knowledge of art history, add to the conversations in critiques, and further the understanding of the process of making art. Students in this class have the opportunity to exhibit their work in a small group-show at the end of the semester. Prerequisites: Drawing and Design, two semesters or more of two-dimensional art or other combinations of intermediate level art classes, and a portfolio review by the visual arts faculty. This course may be repeated for credit.
