The course focuses on algebra, reasoning, and graphing as well as geometry. We stress justification and clear communication.  We encourage students to make connections among various topics by constantly interweaving them. The goal is depth and breadth, with emphasis on conceptual understanding. Mastery of basic skills is firmly grounded in an understanding of the underlying concepts.

The best way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics, so students spend class time exploring, discussing, and checking in their groups.  Occasionally, a student will need additional explanation.  He or she is then expected and encouraged to seek help outside of class, either by consulting with fellow students who understand the material well, by seeing a teacher in the math office, or by using the Learning Center.  Students seeking help will find us generous with our time and eager to assist.
