Math IV: Stephanie Lai
Course Overview:
This course will review topics covered in Math III, look at further applications of these topics, and explore some new topics, including introductions to Statistics and Calculus.
Topics: We will look at applications of some of the Math III topics. For example, we will take different types of functions (linear, quadratic, exponential and logarithmic) and use them to develop models of real-world phenomena. Included in this will be an introduction to some of the ideas of statistics (linear regression models) and finance (simple and compound interest, loan amortization, present and future value of annuities). Other topics covered will include sets, probability, single variable statistics (normal curve distributions) and Calculus.
Our goal is to expose students to a variety of applications that will be useful in diverse academic pursuits. We would also like to prepare our students for the world of credit cards, student loans, and tax returns.
