Qn: whats the best way to get a six pack? (abs not beer)
Kind of like the question below: Why do you want them? Do you want the core part of your body to be strong and healthy? Cool, eat healthy food daily. Drink lots of water and exercise, strength training and cardio stuff daily. Do you want a set of abs that will make people be like “Oh check out those abs. They are so hot and so sexy!”? I can’t help you. Everybody’s body is different and for some people, six packs are actually not healthy.
Qn: How can know that my question will be untraceable/anonymous?
Because I don’t lie to students.
Qn: Where do babies come from?
That’s a bio question funny person.
Qn: Is it bad if I don’t really care who I lose my virginity to?
Different people have different values regarding sex, especially the first time. So whether its bad or not is not a question anyone else should answer. The question to ask yourself is why don’t you care? One very important thing to keep in mind is that you will always remember the first person you had sex with. Remember its your body. By choosing to share it with someone else you choose to open yourself to whatever they’re carrying, be it emotional, mental, or physical baggage. I’m not here to tell you what to do but you should think long and hard about what you are ready for when. Keep in mind:
In a 2003 study, 89% of girls reported feeling pressured by boys to have sex.[7] Before "age 15, a majority of first intercourse experiences among females are reported to be non-voluntary."[8]
A 2000 survey conducted by the Henry Kaiser Family Foundation for Seventeen magazine found that of 15 to 17 year olds who have had sexual intercourse:
- 51 percent surveyed said when they had sexual intercourse for the first time it was because they had "met the right person,"
- 45 percent surveyed said it was because "the other person wanted to,"
- 32 percent of those surveyed said it was because they were "just curious,"
- 28 percent surveyed said it was because they "hoped it would make the relationship closer," and
- 16 percent surveyed said it was because "many of their friends already had sex" [9]
Qn: CPS is a really hard school and I’m always in the computer lab or the library working, as a result ppl don’t know me and think I’m a total loser, and my grades bite the big one as well. What should I do?
Yes CPS is a hard school and sometimes it does take a lot of work to just get by. But your social life is important to. Rather than figuring out what you can do to make people know that you’re not a “total loser”, you might want to focus a little on the things that make you feel good. Organizing your social life around your hobbies makes it so that the people you’re around are, at the very least, interested in the same things you are.
Qn: My left nipple is swelling, do I have breast cancer?
Nipple swelling does not mean cancer. The best thing to do is to go to the doctor and get checked out. It could be nothing, and it could be a thousand and one things other than cancer.
Qn: how much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
As much wood as a woodchuck could chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood. Give me something hard.
Qn: What do guys find most attractive in girls?
Ask 100 guys and you’ll get 100 different answers. Better question: What do girls find most attractive about themselves?
Qn: Occasionally you hear stories about people who accidentally take drugs ("special brownies," etc.) Are there any statistics/surveys/anecdotal evidence detailing the probability of this occurring?
No stats as far as I know about accidental drug taking. So take care of your drinks at parties kids and be cautious of food given with giggles.
Qn: Is 8 hours the minimum number of hours of sleep that teenagers should get? Is it just about the right amount?
9.5 hours! That’s what teens need. 9.5 hours of good sleep! And its possible. You can do it. I’ve known CPS students who’ve prioritize their sleep and had friends and did a sport. So I know its possible.
Qn: What should be done when someone has a panic attack?
Ok so first off a panic attack is defined by having at least three of these symptoms for over five minutes.
- Intense fearfulness (a sense that something terrible is happening)
- Racing or pounding heartbeat
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Shortness of breath or a feeling of being smothered
- Trembling or shaking
- Sense of unreality
- Fear of dying, losing control, or losing your mind
First off, get them to sit down. Then try and get them to breathe slowly, calmly. After that, the next best thing you can do is be a calming presence with them. Panic attacks generally tend to go on for anywhere between ten and thirty minutes. Longer than that, it’s time to get some professional help.
Qn: Is Herpes incurable?
Once someone has herpes they will carry the virus for the rest of their lives. That doesn’t mean they will always exhibit symptoms. In fact the symptoms could surface only once in a great while. There are also drugs that help to reduce herpes outbreaks.
Qn: How does someone get insomnia? Does stress and pressure from school or friends raise the probability of getting it? What are its effects?
Insomnia is the inability to get to sleep or to stay asleep for reasonable amounts of time. Stress and pressure can definitely impact your ability to rest comfortably. SO can drug and alcohol use, medications you might be on, even having a computer on in your room while you’re trying to sleep. Your body needs to sleep for mental and physical reasons. Your ability to retain information, to pass it from your short term to long term memory is directly connected to your sleep. Those vast changes that go on the teenage body take a lot of you. Sleep gives your body a chance to break from some of those changes. Don’t underestimate the importance of sleep.
Qn: does mountain dew shrink your balls?
Ah, the urban myth I love debunking. There is a rumor that the food coloring in Mountain dew will make your testicles (balls? Come on guys, you’re in high school now. Use the proper terms) shrink. The dye, Tartrazine does no such thing. It can, however, cause hives, swelling, and asthma. Now at this point a lot of teenage boys go “Well so long as it doesn’t affect my balls, I’m good to go. Bring on the Mountain Dew!”
Tartrazine is in a lot foods designed for young adults: from Mac and cheese to bubble gum. So the dew isn’t the only culprit.
Qn: When is the latest that a boy can reach puberty?
Barring some genetic, or physiological abnormality, by fifteen most boys have reached puberty.
Qn: Why does many of us feel sleepy most of the day? Is it even sleep deprivation or is it something else, like stress, overworking....?
There is a pretty strong connection between stress and fatigue. But from what I can tell of CPS students, its mostly lack of sleep. How many of the CPS students you know get nine and a half hours of sleep? That’s how much you need to be fully functional. Of course the stress and the overworking don’t help.
Qn: What should you do to handle stress?
See below.
Qn: If a girl/boy likes someone who barely knows she/he exists what should he/he do?
That’s hard. I guess it depends what the girl/boy really wants. I’ve always questioned how someone can know if they really like someone else who doesn’t know they exist. Some people like the chase of a relationship, but find that once they are in one, they don’t enjoy the day to day activities of being hooked up with someone.
Back to the question. I’d say the first step, no matter what your intentions is to get to know the other person. By getting to know them, they also get to know you.
Qn: do you think the test that finds if a high school kid has had a drink in the last 80hrs is really accurate?
I’m still doing research. Here’s the test website http://ethylglucuronide.homestead.com/ Apparently it tests for a metabolite the body produces during the consumption of alcohol.
Qn: What is the best way to deal with someone I thought was my friend who turned out to be a backstabber?
After you’ve cried, yelled, or otherwise gotten out your negative feelings about the individual, gain some distance. Make sure its not a misunderstanding, that it was an intentional backstabbing. And if it was, let it be. You’ve learned a valuable lesson and you should be thankful for it. No need to hold grudges, but there’s no need to try and repair the relationship either.
Qn: got any advice on attracting members of the opposite sex?
Nope. Any thing I’d say would sound like a cliché. Oh heck, why not?! Best thing you can do is be yourself. I’m not saying this will attract members of the opposite sex, but if you are totally yourself at least you know that the people around you appreciate you and not a false version of yourself you’re putting out to impress.
Qn: Are there emotional patterns that lead to sexual relationships/rape/abuse over the internet? Why are most of them women?
You’ve asked a lot of questions in a little space. I’m positive I won’t be able to answer all of them so feel free to write in again for more clarification.
1st off, not all relationships that start over the internet are rape or abusive. For many people the internet is a tool to make connections with others. Whatever emotional patterns they’ve had before do not become more exaggerated or pronounced just because they are on the internet. There is a pattern, however, of people being lulled into a false sense of security when communicating with someone they can’t see. Some people tend to reveal more information about themselves than they would in person. As for why many abusive relationships involve women being victimized, I’d say it has a lot to do with the type of culture we live in, where a lot of boys aren’t taught to respect the boundaries and limits that girls set up for themselves.
Qn: what foods, vitamins, or minerals will make my back hurt less?
I guess it would depend on your back is hurting in the first place. Have you seen a doctor?
Qn: what is the full version of LGBTQQA...etc. and what do all the words mean?
You’ve got all the letters except one I, for a full LGBTQQAI. As for what it stands for: Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, asexual and intersexed.
Qn: How can I manage my school-related stress?
Eat well, sleep often (9+ hours), play hard (exercise), learn how to manage your time and don’t procrastinate. Finally, learn how to enjoy school and not just tolerate it. Focus on the joy of learning and not the pressure of grades. Try it and the stress of school will dissipate like a sand castle on a beach.
Qn: does it help to take off your shoes during a test and rub them on the carpet?
Does it make you comfortable? Does it keep you relaxed and focused? If so, rub away my friend.
Qn: what is the best way to avoid withdrawal when attempting to quit cigarettes without the patch or the gum?
Sorry, but if you’re quitting smoking, and you are addicted, you will feel some withdrawal symptoms. Can’t be helped. If you’re quitting and your parents know, see about the gum or the patch. If not, know that the withdrawals are only temporary. Drink a lot of water, get a lot of rest, and eat a lot of spicy food. Trust, it helps.
Qn: Is there a way to practice safe sex if you eat a girl out?
Yes, there is a protective device called a dental dam
http://images.google.com/images?q=tbn:2_P1oKx2_mJ_RM:http://www.emmagoldman.com/images/dentaldam2.jpg which is basically a thin sheet of latex that keeps all fluids in their respective bodies. One can utilize those, or, if you can’t find one, you can just use a condom and cut it to keep yourself safe.
Qn: What does STD stand for?
Sexually transmitted disease
Qn : Why is Ayize soooo cool?
Ans: He’s cool? Quick, somebody get him some tea! Warm him up!
Qn:Is the technology working?
Ans : Getting there. Ask more questions so I can respond to more.
Qn:Is Tupac really dead?
Ans: YES!
Qn: Does PCP really make you act like Superman?
Ans: If you mean does it make you feel like a character on a piece of paper invented by someone else with no real control over your body, emotions, or thoughts, then I’d say yes. See PCP was first synthesized in the mid 20’s and used in the fifties as an anesthetic, a way to knock people out during surgery. The only problem was a significant portion of the people that it was used on “wigged out” while under. Then some bright boy or girl had the idea of using it for fun in the sixties and seventies going well over the recommended dosage. As a result we had hippy kids throwing themselves out windows because they thought they were super-people. I can’t tell you what to do or how to do it but I can quote my favorite comedian of all time “If you think you can fly, why don’ t you start on the ground? Get a running start. Flap your wings or something. You know, its less risk.”
Qn: What is Chlamydia?
Ans: It’s a bacterial infection that can be treated with antibiotics. It’s tricky because most women show no symptoms of it and only 40% of guys do. The symptom is usually burning when urinating. Sometimes for both sexes there is a discharge from the genitals that can occur at anytime. If you think you might have it, hit the clinic. Untreated, it can cause infertility.
Qn :Does birth control make you gain weight or make your skin worse?
Ans:Some pills do. Luckily there's so many different types of birth control (pills and otherwise) that weight gain and skin problems need no longer bar you from taking preventative measures if you’re sexually active. If you get a pill that makes you gain weight or break out just talk to your doc. They’ve got tons of options.
Qn: Which is worse for your health: snorting cocaine or smoking crack? And what exactly is the difference, anyway?
Ans:Second question first: Crack is basically Cocaine cooked down into rock form with baking soda used as a caking agent. Cocaine is usually processed with hydrochloride and the cooking down basically separates the hydrochloride out, creating a base rather than a salt for all you chem. kids. This is the origin of the early eighties reference to crack heads as Base heads. It’s a more intense high that last for a shorter amount of time. In terms of which is worst for you let me say first that both are pretty bad. But if you’re committed to trying one or the other then I’d suggest you look at routes of intake.
Smoking anything is going to irritate your lungs. Plus smoking is the quickest way for something to hit your brain so you’re talking about a pretty intense high happening incredibly quickly. Snorting cocaine can rot out the membrane between your nasal passages causing a hole between them. It takes longer for the high to hit but it lasts longer. Anyone that has a history of heart problems or respiratory issues would probably want to stay away from cocaine.
Qn: My boyfriend and I are very close and have done couple-like things for a long time. Every time we are "busy," he has his "reaction," but I never have my equivalent one. Is there a problem with me, or with him, or with anything else?
It could be that there’s no problem with anything. One in three women report having problems reaching a Climax with a partner. Some state the reason is that they don’t feel comfortable or relaxed. This leads me to wonder if you have problems having a “reaction” on your own? Oh wait, time out. We are talking about orgasms here, right? I hope so otherwise I’m really confused. Ok, if we are then let’s just say that two key words are comfort and relaxation. If you have decided to be sexually active let me suggest, take your time, don’t rush, and enjoy the process. It’s not like doing well on a math test or finishing a race. Let your journey be your goal.
Qn: What do you do if your heart is broken?
Oh my friend if I knew the ultimate answer to that I probably wouldn’t be working at a high school. It’s universal problem that’s plagued humanity since we first learned the words “Can’t we just be friends?” Based on my years of experiences all I can say for certain is that heart break resembles grief, and grief cannot be avoided for very long. Experience your grief; accept it as part of the mixed chocolate gift box called emotions. Sometimes you get the yummy minty ones. Other times you get the marzipan weird ones. But these emotions are all yours to fully experience. They make you. As you get older you will learn how to better handle these emotions, but for now, commiserate with friends and know that despite a broken heart you are still loved. And eat lots of chocolate. I mean really.
Qn: I have a friend that I dont really want to be friends with anymore, but he/she is still close with my close freinds. what do i do?
It seems the question is can you be around this person without it causing you pain or distress. If you can, then it seems that mutual friends wouldn’t be an issue. If you are having troubles just being around them, let me suggest that you find ways of hanging out with your other friends when you know that person won’t be around.
Qn: I have a foreskin. Will it hurt when I have sex?
It shouldn't. If it does it's not because of your foreskin.
Qn: Is there a big suicide problem at CPS? How many kids tried it last year? Also, how can you help a friend who you think is suicidal?
As far as I know there isn’t a lot of suicide at the school. As to what people are feeling I can only say that when there is a lot of stress without a lot of outlets for stress people tend to become depressed. And depression can lead to thoughts of suicide. If you look on C.P.S net on campus news you can looks at the Health survey results from last year. There are questions regarding people’s desires to hurt themselves on it. AS for what to do: 1. let the person know that you care about them and that you want them to live. 2. Talk to them about suicide. Don’t be afraid to bring it up. You won’t be giving them any ideas. Thoughts of suicide are fairly normal amongst teenagers. Encourage your friend to seek out the school counselor or another trusted adult. And lastly, if you feel your friend is in serious danger tell an adult you trust quickly. Even if they’ve told you in confidence, it’s important that you get them the support they need.
Qn: Is it possible for a virgin to have an std?
It is possible for someone who has not engaged in genital intercourse to have a sexually transmitted disease. Some STD's like Herpes and H.P.V only require contact with the flesh. All sexual encounters come with some risk even a person uses protection.
Qn: If you were to do an experiment to figure out how much wood a wood chuck could chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood, how would you measure it? Would it be in, like, pounds of wood? Or, like, cubic centimeters?
HEALTH ED SITE! Not Woodchuck ED site! Not pounds of Wood site! Geez, some people.
Qn: My brother just got cought for drug posession of marijhana. how should I act? like the cool sibling who understands the brother? or should i make it clear that I really think he was stupid stupid stupid?...or a mixture of both??? PLEASE HELP!
You should be honest. It sounds like you are both angry and concerned. That's appropriate. It’s really hard sometimes to let people we know about how we honestly feel. It’s also really important that we do. Your brother may not know how this situation is affecting you. You have a right to let him know how his actions affect you.
Qn: Can you get an STD without having sex?
Yes. See above.
Qn:What does it mean to love?
That's for each person to define for themselves my friend. May you enjoy the process of figuring it out I know it sounds like a cop out but believe me when I say its true.
Qn.what is the best way to help an anorexic friend? what about a friend who is cutting themselves? i know these are all reactions to depression but what can you say or do to really help someone whos severly depressed?
You may not be able to say much. Some people who are really depressed need medication before they’re able to talk their problems through. The best thing to do is to be as supportive as possible and try and get them to see someone who is a professional. I know, I know, shrinks are weird, adults can’t be trusted, and all the rest. But look, there are people out there that really care, that understand how rough depression can be and want to help. While you may want to support the friend on your own, you may not have enough skills to get the job done right. It’s not a reflection on you. Anorexia and self-mutilation are pretty serious displays that can equal more than depression. My advice, seek help from an adult.
Qn. I think im depressed. ive been to a therapist but it was total bullshit, and didnt help me at all. since then i think ive gotten worse; im lonely, i feel like have no one, my parents were helpful at first but now they just think im being "melodramatic".
First off, I’m sorry you’re depressed. It sucks. The good news is that you’re reaching out and in doing so you’re already on the road to healing yourself. As for the bullshit therapist, well, let’s just say therapist are like candy bars: You have to find your brand. Maybe you like ones with nuts but no nougat. Maybe you’re a peanut butter fan but hate the waifers…Ok, I think I’m done with the candy bar analogy. The point is there are all different types of therapist out there. Most likely there’s one that fits you. It’s important that you don’t give up. As for your parents, they may not understand the gravity of your situation. Sitting them down and explaining in as much detail what’s going on for you might be extremely helpful for both you and them. I doubt your parents want you to be suffering. Remember, I’m around too, if you want to talk. Just e-mail me directly and we can set up a time.
Qn. Is it possible to still be drunk/high 10 hours after drinking/smoking?
YES! It would mean that you drank and smoked so much of whatever it was that your body is still reacting to it. If that wasn’t your desired effect let me suggest you slow down on your substance intake. You might be getting close to doing some serious damage to yourself.
Qn. Is it unhealthy to have romantic/sexual relations with a teacher?
While it is perfectly natural to have a crush on a teacher I'm going to have to say yes it is unhealthy to have a romantic/sexual relationship with a teacher. Adults and teens have different associations with romantic/sexual relationships. What may mean one thing to you may mean something totally different to an adult. What's more, teachers have a certain power over their students which they shouldn't abuse. Romantic/sexual relations are clear examples of abusing that relationship. Any teacher should know better than to get involved with a student. If you are involved with a teacher please consider the potential damage to your own psyche and well being. These are not the sort of relationships that usually end with everyone living happily ever after. Usually it’s the student that ends up getting hurt. Its also illegal. Let me suggest that you get some adult support around this issue. Naturally you can come to me or to another faculty member on campus. Just know that we may have to share some of what you say wih other adults. If that's a problem for you, please find another adult that you trust to speak to about this.

Qn. What makes life worth while?
The living my friend. The living. Sometimes it’s the possibility that tomorrow will be better than today. Sometimes its that the “now” is so rich. Sometimes, its friends and family. Sometimes it’s the joy of being alone. Sometimes its the thrill of getting through a particularly rough spot. Sometimes its enjoying the easy patches. Sometimes its love.
What’s really important is that if you’re seriously questioning what makes life worth living that you find someone who you trust to talk to. If you want tot alk to me just shoot me an e-mail.
Qn. Is this supposed to be the best time of my life?
Ha! My dear dear friend, if the best time of your entire life occurs when you’re in high school, wouldn’t the rest of life be really boring? No, No, No, that best time of your life story is something perpetuated by teenage movies and people who did have their glory years in high school. The truth of it is life is for the living. The best time of your life can be whenever you decide it to be; whenever you commit to taking your life by the horns and riding it into the sunset. Ok mixed metaphor but you get the idea. High school is not the best of all possible worlds. Nor is it the worst. It is just a time of immense change and possible growth. But put extra pressure on yourself trying to make it something its not.
Qn. I know you give out cookies at the end of the year to seniors, but do you announce to the school who receives them?
Last year I did and was told it was a bad idea. This year I’ll do it on senior retreat and give out the cookies on the last day of school.
Qn. I think I'm addicted to porn. What should I do?
As with any addiction I’d say you should get some professional help. Don’t be afraid to come find me and talk. I promise I won’t judge you. But if I’m too intimidating or scary try talking to another adult whom you trust. That being said, remember that so long as you have no religious or other moral prohibitions, there is nothing wrong with masturbating. It’s a healthy expression of sexual desire. A desire which has guaranteed a place for human on this planet for Hundreds of thousands of years. That drive is nothing to be ashamed of. If you feel it’s out of control, yes please come and get some support. But also know there’s nothing wrong with taking pleasure in your own body.
