bay area. He played in the 1976 and 1980 Olympics for Nigeria, is a
CYSA Coaching Staff Instructor and State ODP soccer coach, has played
and coached the Greek American Athletic team, winning the 1985 and 1994
United State Open Cup. Godwin was recruited from Nigeria to play soccer
at the University of San Francisco in 1978, and his team won the 1978
NCAA DIV 1 soccer championships. Prior to coming to CPS, he coached at
Campolindo High School and Lick-Wilmerding High School. His season goal
is to offer committed players the opportunity to develop their soccer
skills both technically and tactically, and have fun at the same time.
His coaching philosophy is, "On good days, we play good soccer, on bad
days we TRY and play good soccer, practice how you would, and play how
you practice, developing skill, and sportsmanship and the value of team
work without sacrificing fun". As a coach, he strives to provide an
environment where his players can improve their soccer skills, learn
the lessons only a competitive team sport can teach, and most
importantly, enjoy the experience enough that they will stay involved
with the game in some capacity at CPS and for the rest of their lives.
His hobbies are playing and coaching soccer, and reading.
