Softball sweeps CSD
Weeelll. Where should I start. How about the moment we left from school today, when it finally sunk into my brain cells that we were about to play four hours of softball - a double header - in Fremont, and thought oooooh bleep in the face. What I didn't realize at that moment, as I called ignorantly for the waaambulance, was that the rest of my day would be PHENOMONAL....
Ok flash forward to our warm up for the first game. The sun is shining, the grass is spotted with yellow and white flowers that Haley Gandsey longs to string into a daisy chain for me, her favorite friend, and we are hitting whiffle balls into the sky when MARTHA SMASHES A LITTLE WHIFFLE BALL IN HALF. It was, I think, an incredibly auspicious beginning, and maybe even the reason we
WON OUR FIRST GAME 9-5!!!! Now, LET ME tell you some highlights, wait first I must get my detailed notes. Ok.
Rachel: made the game ending catch!!
Kanti: always backed up the play at first, and SCORED TWICE.
Helen: tagged at least three girls out at third, and was generally beautiful as always, WE LOVE HELEN
Erica: had several great catches, including two pop flies that were reeeeallly far back (luckily she survived) and also caught a gross throw from me that resulted in my buying her a much deserved chocolate milk shake.
Haley R: had an amazing catch in center field, stole lots of bases, and is still the queen of RBI's
Martha: stole second base! And perfected the art of getting the ball in super fast from the outfield.
Lisa: played catcher and was very, very good, did lots of dances in the dugout and as usual, got really hard hits.
Haley Gandsey: had a slap, which the second baseman unfortunately caught, but it was still great, and pretty much stomped on (figurativelyish) all the base runners, including tagging out the fastest CSD girl like six feet before the base.
ZOE PITCHED THE WHOLE GAME and had TEN STRIKEOUTS, and also had at least a single almost every time she came up to bat, except for when she got hit with the ball, which wasn't so pleasant. And since Haley tells me I need to mention myself, I will say that Maya: got hit with the ball on her funny bone, but is disappointed in the dull coloring of the bruise and wishes it were a lot more purple.
So after our victory, we led various missions to the bathroom, ate some bread, and chilled for maybe eight minutes until we starting warming up agaaaain for our second game. Now, CSD thought they were being really sneaky by waiting until the second game to put in their best pitcher, who was, it's true, one of the fastest pitchers in our conference but lacked control and the certain fierceness brought to the mound by
LISA GILLILAND who pitched the entire second game! She will later have a paragraph just for her, but first...
The second game was incredibly close from the beginning. At no time did either team pull ahead by more than three runs, and we constantly battled to keep CSD from scoring, even getting out of some innings with the bases loaded.
IF YOU ARE LAZY, YOU CAN NOW JUST READ WHAT'S IN CAPS!
But oh, by the way, we were the home team for the second game. SO going into the 6TH INNING, we were DOWN BY ONE, and we could not score manage to score during the bottom of the 6th In the 7th, we HELD CSD SCORELESS and then we came up to bat, knowing exactly what we had to do... WE NEEEEDED TO SCORE TWO RUNS.
First, Kanti got on base. Then, Helen had a monstrous hit that landed her on first. Then I struck out, yay.
THEN ZOE came up to bat, and SMASHEEED THE BALL into the outfield, driving home a run. WE WERE TIED! Haley Gandsey had her visor on upside down and looked like an idiot, but we didn't care, we were that excited.
THEN
NEW PARAGRAPH JUST FOR LISA: The EXTRORDINARY LISA GILLILAND came up to bat and I could feel something start around my feet. It was, without question, a WAVE OF PWNAGE aka A PWN WAVE, so we started chanting, PWN PWN PWN PWN and as Lisa swung the bat, I could feel the roaring pwn waters crashing down around the CSD girls, and when the ball soared out past the center fielder's head, I knew wave had fully broken as Lisa
DROVE HOME THE WINNING RUN and we WON 8-7!!!!!!!!
Then we went to In N' Out.
PWN PWN PWN PWN ! we were very, very good today.
