 "I’ve always enjoyed watching sports, but I’d never participated in
them before this year. I had certainly not expected to play a sport in
high school. Some of the girls were trying to recruit new members for
the girls’ softball team at the beginning of the season so that the
team would actually have enough players to play... and that’s how I
ended up joining the team. At first I was worried about my lack of
softball skills but they assured me that I would improve over the
course of the season. Honestly, at the beginning, the only thing I
could think of in the outfield was “please don’t hit it to me”. It
turns out that I wasn’t the only girl on the team who never played
softball before. About half of the girls on the team were rookies as
well. The fact that the levels of skill on our team are so different
definitely makes it all the more interesting. It’s what really bonds
our team together. It doesn’t matter what grade you’re in, the more
experienced players are always ready and willing to help and offer
advice to the less experienced players. In fact, it has turned out to
be incredibly challenging but amazingly fun. As the season progresses,
we are all getting more comfortable and confident and I’m sure that we
will all keep playing our hardest. I think it’s going to be a great
