And so they did!  With gusto, élan, and verve!  Prep T & F made their league season debut at the Bay Area Conference, BAC, center meet #1, hosted by CSU at the College of San Mateo, home of the spiffy blue track and remarkable view.  Generally nice weather greeted the ever-growing throng of conference competitors, and after a few first-meet-of-the-season snafus at the onset of the meet, things got rolling and for Prep, there was no looking back.  From my perspective as the meet starter, I saw a dazzling array of quality performances, both givens and surprises.  And I couldn’t help but repeatedly hear Prep athletes’ names being announced as winners of events!  Cowabunga!  The relay teams were dynamite.  It was a terrific meet in virtually every respect.  Athletes nursing injuries were back in uniform, giving it their best shots.  Nerves were replaced with smiles of relief and success, victories large and small and each of them important.  Events were tried for the first time all season, and new events were attempted after the official events were closed just for fun.  (I think about half of the team now wants to high jump.)  Given the surplus of positives, it was a bit surprising to see the eventual team scores, but given the number of events in which we had no entries, the scores make complete sense.  Ahhh perspective.  The ladies, all 14 of them, should be pleased as punch to have tallied almost 100 points, and the fellas should not be crest fallen having scored almost 150 points.  It was a classic Prep showing in a BAC meet: many high placings but not quite enough depth to overcome the huge teams (read: Berean).  A definite learning experience for all of us, and a fine base from which to plan and work towards future meets.  Remember: we’re aiming to peak in May.  And we have plenty of time to prepare for the next BAC meet; it doesn’t take place until after spring break.  So hold your heads high, Prepsters – this was a meet to be immensely proud of.  Your collective talents opened many eyes and were impossible to ignore.  And kudos to the many event winners – no small feats there!

CONGRATS TO ALL!

Meet results are on the following pages.  You’ll find the BCL East results, then the conference placings.  Only Prep competitors are listed.  You can find complete results posted on the Track board in the gym.

Thank you to Julian CP and Sydney and anyone else who compiled splits for the meet.
The meet was scored by league.  The BAC is comprised of the BCL West and BCL East.  The following points reflect the BCL East scoring.

Looking ahead…the annual clarification question: “What places advance from the BAC championship meet to the NCS Class A meet?  For open events, it’s the top 6 in the conference (not just the BCL East).  For the relays, it’s the top 4 in the conference.

Thank you to the families that were able to make the journey to cheer on the troops.  And for the refreshments!

Next competition:
Tuesday, April 22, at BCL Meet #2 in San Francisco.
