Var. Volleyball defeats St. Elizabeth

Yesterday's game against St. Liz was AWESOME!!!!! The first game started out on the greatest note, with Dot (Dorthy) serving 10 points in a row (!), setting the tone for the rest of the game.  But St. Liz wasn't going to go down w/out a fight and the second game they rallied and fought good and hard for their win.

However, we decided that this was simply not acceptable and came back to win the next two games, thus winning the entire game. For those of you who are familiar with St. Liz's team last year, this year's team was much more of a challenge. They had strong servers and a few good hitters who really tested our defense.

Highlights include Dot's setting, which was fantastic, considering that this girl was sick as a dog, coughing up a storm through out the whole game (she even lost her voice!). Props to her for managing to stay consistent. I hope she went home and slept for 18 hours. Juliana also dominated the front row. This girl had 12 kills and 4 blocks, making me a tad bit ashamed of only getting 5 kills and 4 blocks myself (see Chloe, I'm not being overly modest!), but that's ok. I like to tell myself that if I were 6 inches taller I could be just a great as Juliana :P. Emc was a fantastic libero with over 20 great passes and she even got in a few aces despite never being in front of the ten foot line. Also, snaps for Mattie for stepping up to the plate when we were missing starter Chloe (who we shall now all shun for missing this game.. .JK! I love you Chloe!). Anyway, Mattie did very well, especially towards the end when we were all getting tired. Also, everyone else did very well. I was SUPER happy with the communication and with the effort everyone made to keep the energy high when we started to lag. We had some amazing saves and great plays that wouldn't have happened if everyone hadn't put their heart into it. We managed to keep going despite server mix ups and some mistakes at crucial points.

Lastly, THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH to the crowd!!!! Seriously, you all made a huge difference in our energy and I think we all laughed at your antics; from yelling "BEAST MODE" when we did something great, to Colby's awesome "good eye dance," (someone PLEASE record it lol) it was hilarious. W/out you guys this game would have been a lot harder. :D

And on that note, let me end with a (what I think is) amusing antidote. So when we played Drew on  Tuesday (we beat them, in case you forgot :) ), and during, I think it was the second or third game, their setter (and team captain) and on the court, yelling at each of the girl "DO YOU WANT THIS? DO YOU WANT IT?" to which the girls would reply "YEAH< YES" or something like that. So she's gone around to each girl, and she's finally on the last one, the middle back. So the setter yells " Angelia, DO YOU WANT THIS?!" And Angelia says, "huh?" At the time, it was funny... :) - B. Mariolle
