Varsity Volleyball suffers tough loss in opener
So earlier this night your girls varisty volleyball team headed over to Redwood Christian. Despite our best efforts, we lost in four (very close) games, including one that went into overtime.
This was a fantastic game for everyone, but our new setter, freshmen (or should I say freshwoman in the spirit of political correctness?) Dorthey, or as I call her: Dot, really shined. Totally constant even under pressure this girl had 4 aces, a kill and over 20 assists. Fellow fresh(wo)man Julia also did splendidly as an outside hitter with 9 kills. Maddie, another outside hitter played a steady game with 1 ace, 1 kill, and some great digs. Emc (Emily Chen) , whose nickname is almost the mass-energy equivalence formula, was a strong presence in the back row as libero and even got a few good hits in and Juliana dominated the net with her 6ft self easily, getting in some great hits and blocks. Rightside hitter Chloe left the court with 5 kills and some blocks as well. And seniors (09!) Tessa and Hilary really stepped up to the plate after being put into the game cold form the bench. Both got a kill (Tessa's was at an especially crucial part of the game) and Hilary had some fantastic serves that had the other side scrambing to return the ball. Julie Jung also made an appearance on the court and was calm and dependable force in the back row. The oft ignored Bench also made a guest appearance by cheering on the players on the court.
Unfortunately, despite all of our fantastic plays were not quite fantastic enough to win, so we ended up with final scores of: 27-29, 22-25, 25-21, 18-25, losing 1-3. Still, all of us took something away from the game. For a lot of us it was a dirty shirt from sprawling so much, for Juliana it was a wrapped elbow, and for myself it was a rather random bruise in the middle of my forearm (I'm still not quite sure how it got there).
