My personal philosophy of coaching:
It is important for me to keep interscholastic sports in perspective.  Learn and have fun!  Sports have always given me an avenue to express myself and improve as a person.  I want to give my athletes the same opportunity.  I hold myself accountable to display qualities I expect in my athletes.  How I handle myself professionally students will model “actions speak louder than words”.  My foundation is sportsmanship. With treating others with respect promotes a positive character.
I grew up watching John Wooden (UCLA’s Men’s Basketball Coach).  I have always admired his philosophy of  “building the character for life and playing basketball second”.  His “Pyramid of Success” outlines principles that I use daily with my student/athletes:  such as, friendship, loyalty, cooperation and enthusiasm.  When I was in high school, one of my favorite Girl Scout services was working at the Special Olympics held at UCLA. I was able to see John Wooden’s players first hand displaying those characteristics working with the athletes at the Special Olympics.
The education at College Prep offers many life experience activities and my job is to do it through team sports.  Young people are confronted with so many issues these days.  If I can help them grow as a person through sports, so they can handle situations on their own, I have done my job.
