"I am a runner on the girls’ varsity cross-country team. This year the
team had an awesome year. At the beginning of the year we were not
sure that we would even have enough runners to be a complete team. But
we did. The team came so far during the season it is amazing. We went
from almost not being a complete team to winning our league. We then
went on to compete at NCS. Our goal was to come in at least fourth as
a team so that we could go on to state. Unfortunately, we came in
fifth. That was the end of our season, but that does not matter. What
mattered is that we came together to become a team. This whole season
was a wonderful and unforgettable experience." | "I remember this one time, after we had ran in the BCL championships and the girl’s varsity went off from the group and got into a huddle. After quietly conversing, we started screaming because we were so happy we had won the meet. That’s what cross-country at CPS to me is all about. Not winning, but being with a team. I guess I was just really lucky that it happened to be this group that I landed in. All of the girls were upbeat and would encourage me through my “pre-race nerves” (which were in abundance). Not only that, but Kat and Coakley have been such good coaches. They run with us, they don’t let us give in to our nerves, and they are always in the right place in the trail at the right time. It’s amazing, they seem to be everywhere in a race, cheering you on when a hill starts and reminding you to take little steps while going up. "
