| Jack Coakley, Head Coach: Jack has coached cross country for 24 years and track for 11 years, 14 and 7 respectively at CPS. Both the men's and women's teams won BCL-East Championships last year. The boys team won NCS Div. V and finished 2nd in State last year. The boys teams have qualified for the state meet 4 times. The girls teams have finished in the top 5 each of the last four years, and qualified for the state meet two times. At the state meet, the girls and boys teams have finished in the top 10 each year. In the years prior to this wonderful streak of team success, individual runners have qualified every year for the state meet, always finishing in the top 20, frequently finishing in the top 10, and Kat Saxton (Class of '98) won the state championships in 1996. Jack has loved all of his teams and heartily applaud all of the many successes large and small, but the 2000 boys team qualification to the state meet (the first team ever to qualify with some remarkably dedicated efforts) and the 2002 girls teams (a heterogenous group in terms of experience who steadily learned to believe in themselves during the season) are recent stand-outs in addition to Kat's thrilling victory. Jack ran cross country and track in high school, as well as playing football during his freshman year. Jack became an avid runner while rowing on the crew team at Cal. Jack continues to run and is also a mountain biker and a softball player. Jack is also a chemistry teacher here at CPS.
