Admission to the University of California
In the spring of your junior year, you will be able to access online, Introducing the University, with information regarding admission to the U.C. system campuses. Requirements for both U.C. and C.S.U. campuses will be more in line than in past years. Please refer to the UC website and the CSU web site for the most current information. If you would like specific information about admission as a freshman check this website. You may download the brochures from the websites.
The University recognizes that courses taught at some schools are more difficult and demanding than those taught at others. Hence, some courses at CPS (i.e. English III and IV, Foreign Language at Level III and above, Math IVA, Physics, U.S. History, and AP courses) are designated as "Honors" courses (for the UC system only). These courses are upgraded by one grade point on the GPA scale. For example, a grade of B--3.0--would become an A--4.0-- in these courses for UC purposes. Your UC system GPA, based only on 10th and 11th grade UC approved course work, may therefore be higher than your cumulative GPA. A full listing of CPS "Honors" courses will be available to you in the fall of your senior year before you fill out your UC application (done in a workshop session in October of the senior year). The UC Honors courses will be highlighted on your transcript so that other institutions are aware of their status as well.
Approximately one quarter (22%) of our graduates over the last five years have matriculated at UC campuses.
