For the majority of the world (the third world),
food intake is less than that needed to live a productive life, people can't
work hard without enough energy from food, and mothers can't nurse kids sufficiently.
By buying a $3.00 tile, students and faculty participate
in a special meal designed to illustrate the unequal distribution of resources
in the world. Tiles are then picked randomly and participants get one of three
very different meals in approximate proportions to distribution of food in
the world.
Most years we are able to raise between $2000 and $4000 for
Oxfam projects.
