Overview and Design Philosophy
The new CPS Website is different than just a collection of web files on a server. It is a “Content Management System.” What’s most important to you about a CMS is that, with the proper permissions, you can create and modify pages on the website from any browser in the world. Moreover, we set up our system so that your page should look good, even if all you know how to do is type in a few lines of text.
The structure of this website differentiates presentation (the way a
site is laid out on the page) and its content (the text, information,
and images on the site.) You create content. You help build the website
by adding text, pictures, and useful files (e.g. .pdf and Word
documents). Navigation, color schemes, and even images are put on the
page automatically. All that you, as the content creator, are responsible
for is the text on the screen. The templates that we have put in place will somewhat curtail your options as a content creator (by limiting color and layout choices), but this design strategy helps us to maintain a consistent
look and feel throughout the site, a key motivator in the decision to
redesign the school’s website.
For effective management of this site, it is essential that
content creators (you) follow a few simple rules. This document is your
style guide to creating your website simply, with a minimum of effort
and programming expertise.
