What books will I need for fall 2008?

Click on one of these links to see the lists online, or to download the entire list of books for all College Prep courses.

Please buy all your books before the first day of classes. In the unlikely event that your courses change before classes begin, you can re-sell them to other students or return them to the vendor. The all-school book for 2008-2009, which every student should read before classes begin, is:

Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortensen and David Oliver Relin. Viking, 2006, ISBN 0143038257

Each book you buy must have an ISBN (International Standard Book Number) matching the number on the College Prep list. The ISBN is a  13-digit number beginning with 978-, usually located on the back cover or the back of the title page and included in the product information from online sellers. The most important information for buying the edition required by your teacher is this number.

A note about publishers

You may notice that the publisher listed here may vary from that found on different sites; for example, K12 may list the publisher under a different name, or another vendor may list the supplier rather than the publisher. Please note that book companies are constantly changing owners and partners, so the name of the publisher is not your primary clue as to whether you have the right book. Match the ISBN and the rest of the details will be less relevant. For further enlightenment, see the Publisher websites page.

Where should I get them?

You may buy your books from any source; you are not required to use our online vendor.  For your convenience, online vendor K12StudentDirect is guaranteed to have in stock every book on your list. The login and password for K12 are available from Mrs. Hamilton in the library or at 510-420-2329.

Can I buy them used?

Used materials are acceptable in many cases; see the individual department book lists for descriptions of acceptable conditions. For best results, College Prep Bookswap is an online tool for buying and selling used course books among College Prep students.
