The Black Student Faculty Union, headed by co-presidents Natalie and Mikaela, is a budding organization created to serve the African American students and Faculty of our school. Our purposes are to:

1. Create an environment where all are welcome to discuss problems that affect the black race and culture AND to deal with those issues surrounding the race at CPS

2. Teach both ourselves and the entire community about our rich and interesting history and increase awareness in the student body about the present issues involving the black people.

3. Serve as a support group to help our members adjust to this campus (as many are from a very different lifestyle from that of the CPS)

Started about four three years ago, the Black Student Faculty Union (originally the Black Student Union) has developed more and more into having a tangible presence on campus. We hope to do much more in the 2006-2007 year to increase our prominence and create change.

Our Mission Statement of the 07-08 year:

In this, our third year as The College Preparatory School's black student organization, it is the mission of the Black Student and Faculty Union to both offer support to all black students and their supporters, and establish ourselves as a bigger community presence than in previous years, both as a communal entity amongst ourselves in and out of school, as well as an observable presence in the greater CPS community.

We are open to all members of the CPS community, black or non-black, and encourage anyone and everyone interested in issues of race, black heritage, or just having a nice place for conversations to attend our weekly meetings (Wednesday at lunch in the Student Center).
