Climb aboard the 82-foot long schooner Seaward, stow your gear in your berth (bunk for you landlubbers) and get ready to experience San Francisco bay and the California coast as never before! During this 5-day/4-night sea-going adventure, under the guidance of a professional captain and crew, students are challenged to become a team through learning to sail a classic sailing vessel. Given increased responsibility as the days pass, their skills grow; they develop confidence, teamwork and leadership abilities. Dependent on weather, wind and tide instead of social pressures and electronic entertainment, they gain an appreciation and respect for the ocean environment. By fully participating in all aspects of shipboard life: steering, navigating, standing watch, and helping in the galley students become one with the rhythm of a ship at sea, often returning to shore forever changed.

This is a camping and backpacking trip to the most remote and biologically diverse national park in Costa Rica: Corcovado. It’s a truly amazing rainforest; there are flocks of scarlet macaws, monkeys, toucans, coatis, peccaries, frogs, and even trees that walk!
We will hike through rainforests, swim under waterfalls and in hot springs, and learn about Costa Rica, one of the few counties in the world that does not have an army.
• Students going on this trip are expected to participate in fundraising, which is an essential element in keeping the price to $500 and in coalescing the group. This work will include prep periods, lunches and a couple of Saturdays. As with all trips, this course is open to all grades—underclassmen are strongly encouraged to apply.
• Hiking through the rainforest is strenuous. Sign up for this trip if you are ready for a wonderful rough and tumble adventure.
• This trip extends into Spring Break. We depart on Monday, April 7th and return on Monday, April 14th.
