The Learning Center offers organizational and academic support for College Prep students.
The LC is open every school
day for students to drop by during breaks, free periods, and lunch, or to make
appointments in advance. To secure an appointment time, students send an email
to the LC staff member with whom he or she would like to meet. While dropping
in is always welcome, appointments have priority over drop-ins.
In academic situations, the LC can offer support both before
an assignment is due and afterward, help with test or paper corrections, and
help with organization and planning. When coming to the LC for help on an
assignment, students should bring the assignment and their work and have
questions formulated in advance.
The LC staff includes:
Jennifer Tetler, Integrated Lab Science teacher, math and science LC support. Click here to email Jen. (Jen teaches 4th period, so she cannot meet then.)
Patricia Prewitt, English and writing LC support. Click here to email Patricia.
Raj Reddy, English I teacher, English and writing LC support. Click here to email Raj. (Raj teaches 5th period, so he cannot meet then.)
John Fanning, Freshman Foundations co-teacher and Partners
Director. Click here to email John. (John is not on campus every day, and his
schedule changes weekly, so advance appointments are necessary.)
Sharona Barzilay, Assistant Head and Academic Dean, should
be contacted for more global issues, such as difficulty with reading
comprehension, processing speed issues (need for extra time), diagnosed or
suspected learning challenges, etc. Click here to email Dr. Barzilay.
The LC services include:
- One-on-one appointments to work with the LC staff (for homework help, assistance with test corrections, help with planning and organization, etc.)
- Peer tutoring
- Periodic workshops (feel welcome to email us with workshop ideas)
- Review sessions for upcoming exams
- A quiet place to do homework -- but not as quiet as the library. For example, the LC is a great place to do group work and peer tutoring -- situations that require conversation and thus might be too loud for the library.
- A variety of helpful tools and tips, such as study tips for finals from your teachers and fellow students, as well as a study-schedule template.
Please email John with any further inquiries.
