Alumnus Jon Cohen ’89 Visits History Classes to Talk Politics

Jon Cohen, September 18, 2008

College Prep alumnus Jon Cohen ’89 (and son of Head of School Murray Cohen) recently returned campus as a Guest Lecturer in two College Prep history classes “U.S. History” and “America Since WWII.” Cohen, the Director of Polling at The Washington Post, discussed the current presidential race with students, noting that many of his colleagues at the newspaper had called it “the most interesting election” of their time. Responding to numerous student questions, Cohen covered such topics as the importance of the candidates’ positions on the Iraq War to their success in the primaries, the recent shift in voters’ attention to the economy, the relative merits of polling by “random walks” versus telephone calls, and the much-mythologized “Wilder” and “Bradley” effects on elections.
