Lauren Johnson joins CPS to sit on the other side of the classroom
The College Preparatory School welcomed Lauren Johnson back to CPS as mathematics teacher after completing her high-school years at CPS over ten years ago.
“I was drawn back to CPS, after completing my BA in Economics and French at Rice University. I loved the culture and openness of the CPS campus, and felt this was a great opportunity to continue doing something I am passionate about. CPS sparked my enthusiasm for mathematics; it is only fitting that I get a chance to pass that on to the next generation of students,” states Lauren.
"Lauren exemplifies the culture of CPS. After completing a rigorous academic degree and a double major at Rice University and working in information technology and education for several years, she brings insight, knowledge and experience to CPS. Lauren joins four other CPS alumni on Campus: Molly Aaronson-Gelb, Alumni Relations; Jeff Sensabaugh, Science; Graciela Benito, Finance; and Lexy Green, Forensics. " Dr. Murray Cohen, Head of CPS says. " We have found that our returning students create a unique atmosphere and connection to our current students; they really know what it feels like to be on campus for their first day of class or to work within the academic program. They offer invaluable insight into life on campus and serve as well-grounded mentors to our younger students. "
Laura Johnson is a CPS alumna of 1993. After completing her BA, she worked for three years in information technology and for two years as an instructor and technician for Guide Dogs for the Blind before rejoining schools, as a tutor in educational centers and as a math teacher for two years in schools in Austin, Texas. Lauren rejoined CPS first as the math instructor in the 2005 Partners program for economically disadvantaged students and now teaches mathematics and tutors in the CPS Learning Center
