CPS Junior Awarded YFU Program to Travel to Japan.
Mercy A., currently studying Japanese, has been awarded a scholarship to travel to Japan. The YFU (Youth for Understanding), one of the world's most respected international exchange organizations, selected Mercy to receive the JAF Scholarship, as a Japanese American Friendship Scholar. Mercy will travel to Japan this summer for a six-week stay with her host family.
To qualify for this program, Mercy had to satisfy criteria of being a current high-school junior and studying Japanese with a 3.0 grade-point average. The inclusive scholarship covers round-trip international travel, placement with a carefully selected host family, regional orientation for scholarship recipients and parents, three-day Japan-specific orientation at the beginning of the program, receptions and meetings with government officials in Tokyo and preparatory materials.
Other skills that are considered by YFU include being flexible, having a spirit of adventure, and enjoying the challenge of adapting to new people in a new culture. For more information: www.yfu-usa.org/ao/scholarships/jafs.htm
