CPS students honored by National Achievement Scholarship Program.

The National Achievement Scholarship Program has honored Omari B. as Outstanding Participant and Samuel D. as a Semifinalist and Commended student in the 2006 program.

Omari B. is actively involved in the CPS Black Student and Faculty Union. He is a talented amateur photographer and represents CPS as a sprinter on the track team. Omari lives in Alameda County.

Sam D. is a talented CPS student who serves as president of the CPS Pride in Diversity Club and the CPS Black Student and Faculty Union and co-chairs the Publicity Committee of the CPS Student Council.  As both an accomplished musician and keen debater, Samuel represented CPS at the national PoC (People of Color Conference) in 2004. Sam lives in Alameda County.

The National Merit® Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), a test which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.3 million entrants each year, and by meeting published program entry/participation requirements.
