CPS Welcomes, Guest Choreographer, Abigail Hosein

Abigail Hosein, founder of Ahdanco, a modern dance company.

Guest choreographers are an integral part of the dance program at CPS. Part of the educational goal in teaching and working with high school students is to expose them to a variety of different styles and disciplines in dance. Students tend to come into the dance department with a preconceived notion of what "Dance Is" or what it means "To Dance". CPS deconstructs these ideas, by giving students a an opportunity to personally work first hand with Artists. Choreographers join CPS for 1-2 months to develop a new piece of choreography or to teach from the choreographers repertoire

Abigail Hosein holds her MFA in Performance and Choreography from Mills College and her BA in Psychology from Goucher College. In 2002 she founded Ahdanco, a modern dance company that has since preformed throughout the Bay Area in three home seasons at Dance Mission Theater and in festivals such as Summerfest, the Vision Series, Monterey Dance Festival, Julia Morgan Center's Dance Is Festival, Raw & Uncut, and Dance Brigade's Harvest Festival.

Hosein’s work focuses on how the life and imagination of an individual can be shaped, for better or worse, by the totality of psychological content – engaging, inspiring and provoking self-assessment and self-reflection in viewers. Ahdanco’s repertory consists of a wide range of modern dance diverse in style, structure and content and includes collaborations with composers, poets, and visual artists. Hosein has performed locally with Dance Repertory/San Francisco and Mills College Repertory Dance Company, as well as with the NC based Elon Dancers Repertory Company and Moving Liturgy Dance Company.

Abigail has taught locally at Santa Clara University, Shawl-Anderson Dance Center, Dance/10 Performing Arts, and Berkeley High. She teaches with the San Francisco Performances' Dance Mentors program which sends choreographers into public schools to share their creative vision with students.

Please check on upcoming performances at www.ahdanco.org.
