French Students Hear Salif Keita at Zellerbach Hall

On Wednesday, April 25th, students from the Advanced French class, along with teachers Annie Knudsen and Susan Weiner, went to Zellerbach Hall to hear the well-known Malian musician, Salif Keita, perform.  Salif Keita is one of the most influential musicians in francophone Africa and performs in the Bay Area once every two years.  He is a member of the royal family of Mali, and his decision to dedicate his life to music caused a scandal in his family and even led to his expulsion from school!  The concert is typically a lively one, with much of the audience dancing in the aisles and on stage. French students at CPS are exposed to many aspects of French culture from around the globe.  Earlier this year, they attended a film by Senegalese filmmaker Ousmane Sembane.
