CPS students to see Senegalese superstar.
On Friday November 11, 60 CPS stuCPS French Students get rare opportunity to see Senegalese superstar - Join the CPS French class at Zellerbach on November 11, 2005 .Students who are currently studying French will attend a concert at Zellerbach Hall given by Youssou N'Dour, a Senegalese superstar and amazing performer.
His music is a mix of traditional percussion, griot singing, and Afro-Cuban and indigenous dance rythms, with 2004 Grammy Award winning album Egypt, N'Dour's Senegalese melodies combine Egyptian and Arab orchestral sounds in a lyrical celebration of Muslim mystical culture. "The result is a kind of Muslim soul music that venerates God and the distinct traditions that have existed for centuries in N'Dour's West African homeland." (SF Chronicle).
