College Prep Junior elected Governor for the Junior State of America

College Prep junior, Rebecca S. has been elected Governor for the Junior State of America (JSA) to represent Northern California.

Ms. S. joins only nine other student delegates selected to serve as Governors for different regions of the United States. This is a great honor for Rebecca. Her duties will include encouraging political involvement and civic leadership among high school students by overseeing all JSA activities in her respective geographic area, including three major weekend-long conventions, management of the program budget, support for high school JSA chapters, and the expansion of the program to new schools. Additionally, she will work with her fellow students as a national JSA Council of Governors to make executive decisions regarding the non-partisan Junior State of America during the 2008-2009 school year.

"JSA is something I'm incredibly passionate about and dedicated to, so I'm excited to be the new Northern California Governor. I hope to bring some of my work back to the College Prep community by helping spark other students' passion for politics and expanding our school's JSA chapter."  states Ms. S.

College Prep has a JSA club, as part of the 110 schools that host JSA Clubs in Northern California. JSA is one of the largest student run organization in the nation.

The Junior State of America is a 74-year-old student-run, nonpartisan civic education and political awareness organization for high school students.  JSA prepares young adults to be the active citizens and effective, principled political leaders of tomorrow.  Although JSA is run by high school students, a teacher at each chapter’s high school serves as an advisor and the organization is supported by The Junior Statesmen Foundation based in San Mateo, California and Washington, D.C.
