On Wednesday, July 11, Partners will celebrate 25 years of service to Oakland public school students and families! The on-campus celebration will include afternoon and evening events from 10am - 2pm and 5:30pm - 7:30pm. All visitors are welcome to enjoy an alumni and friends luncheon and campus tours in the afternoon. In the evening, guests can look forward to alumni speakers, raffles, and light refreshments. The Partners Program began 25 years ago to provide summer academic opportunities to low-income Oakland public middle school students. Today, the program has evolved into a community of students, teachers, and allies working together to break down the barriers to academic success faced by under-resourced youth in Oakland public schools. In addition to the 5-week summer academy, the program’s support offerings have expanded to include: academic-year middle school partnerships, leadership development programs, a high school transition program, and a college transition program.
In 2012, The Partners Program received national recognition for its ground- breaking work partnering with Oakland public schools and tracking measurable student gains. On April 12, 2012, the Educational Policy Institute named Partners as one of ten “best practice” college-access programs nationwide. A few weeks later, Partners was awarded The National Partnership for Educational Access’s 2012 Award for Excellence in Collaboration.
