Graduation Year: 2014
Middle School: The Seven Hills School
College: University of Chicago
Home Town: Walnut Creek
Biggest difference between middle school and high school: The freedom is very different. At my old school, there was less independence, and everything was supervised. Here it is different.

Why I chose College Prep: Not only are the academics challenging but also rewarding, and the people here are great. Everyone is just as quirky and unique as I am, something that I value very highly. I fit in well and have many different types of friends in different groups.

Why I'm glad I chose College Prep: I love the community, the academics, and the teachers.

Favorite place on campus: My favorite place on campus has to be the benches at the newly-reconstructed upper campus. It's a nice place to read a book or talk with friends under the shade of the trees.

Campus involvement: I participate in various clubs like Science Club and Doctor Who Club - some in a more dedicated fashion than others. Additionally, I like to go to Student Life meetings when I can, which is where a group of students and teachers make plans for and talk about things like assemblies and forums.

Favorite class: I was really fortunate last year in that I liked all of my classes, but I will single out two that I'd like to talk about: English II and Western Civ. My English teacher was really funny, and in addition to being a great teacher, he was a friend and a confidant. My class had only nine students, somewhat smaller than a typical class, so by the end of the year, we were all very close. Western Civ. was great because of my teacher, Paige. If you've never met Paige, it's hard to describe him in a way that does him justice, but I think the word that pops to the top of my head is energetic. Paige has an almost unmatched energy when it comes to teaching that is just infectious and spreads to the whole classroom. I always felt like I understood everything, and moreover, that I was having a good time learning about history.

Favorite College Prep memory: For those who don't know what Intraterm is, it takes place the week before spring break. You get to choose from a variety of classes (seriously, there is Parkour, Animation, trips to exotic places like the Yucatan). My freshman year, I chose a photography intraterm called "Night Scenes" where we went to San Francisco at nighttime to take photos. My group was awesome, and it was so nice to be doing something that required thinking, while taking a break from the more stressful parts of life.

Favorite thng about College Prep: The overwhelming sense of community makes everybody feel welcome.

Coolest (spring/summer/winter) break experience: I went to China with my dad two summers ago. I really enjoyed the experience because it happened to be at the same time as the World Expo. I also hiked a portion of the Great Wall. I got to enjoy delicious food and find out about a different culture.

Favorite character from a movie/book/television series: I have so, so many, but I think that I'll list one and only one here. The originator of the Pyramid of Greatness, worshipper of the late Li'l Sebastian (RIP), deliverer of deadpan delivery, and most importantly, the manliest man of all time, this man is the great Ron Swanson from Parks and Rec.

Three unusual things about myself:
  1. I do ballet five days a week.
  2. It is my dream to live in New York City.
  3. I don't drink coffee or any other caffeinated drink.....for now. I might have to start one of these years.
