Linda Tillery has been a fan favorite in the SF music scene since the 1960s. She was the drummer and vocalist for the group The Loading Zone, and in the 1990s she formed the Cultural Heritage Choir, which is her current group. The Cultural Heritage Choir is a Grammy-nominated, percussion driven, vocal ensemble whose mission is to preserve and share the rich musical traditions of Africa-American roots music. Linda stands out as the lead vocalist on their African and Gospel works. She delves deeply into the diverse resources of African-American roots music, the tradition of call and response, and the rhythms that drive this music and give it vitality. Linda will teach you how to sing and dance some of the following at this LiveTalk: Work Songs, Spirituals, Children's Play Songs, Field Hollers, Moans, Ring Shouts, and Plantation Dances.
