Prep Talk featuring Helena Maria Viramontes
Helena Maria Viramontes, author of Under the Feet of Jesus, Their Dogs Came with Them, and countless short stories, joins English teacher Andrea Tinnemeyer in conversation for our community PrepTalk.
Viramontes enthralled freshmen, sophomores and juniors with a reading from her 2008 novel, Their Dogs Came with Them, and regaled them with tales of her own upbringing in a bookless house to her edifying and kind interactions with Nobel prize recipient Gabriel García Márquez.
Professor Viramontes is the chair of the Creative Writing Program at Cornell University, where she has taught creative writing courses for several years.
Sophomores have recently completed Under the Feet of Jesus, and all English II courses feature Viramontes' most anthologized story, "The Moths."
