I have been in love with the theatre ever since my teenage years, when I discovered the excitement of acting, writing and directing for the stage. I see my work as a teacher as a continuation of my creative work as a director, filmmaker, performer and playwright.
Teaching at College Prep, I have learned that the most effective way to teach Drama is to take on projects that I can love with all my heart and mind; plays that venture deep into human experience and offer paths for continuous growth for all those who come into contact with them. If I find a project personally challenging and fulfilling, I can find ways to invite my students to become collaborators in exploring its riches and mysteries. This informs my teaching and my directing.
Recently, my interests have expanded into puppetry and filmmaking as well, and one of the delightful aspects of teaching at College Prep is the Digital Video & Performance class that I have had the pleasure of introducing into the curriculum. I am continually touched and thrilled to see the intense creativity, intelligence and passion that so many of my colleagues and students bring to their work, and this is what inspires me to teach.
