Merchant Rewards and eScrip

The Parents’ Association raises funds for items requested on the Faculty Wish List from a variety of programs described here. Please consider how you can participate in these easy no-cost ways to contribute to virtually every area of the school.

Do you shop online?

Contributions can be generated from scores of online merchants and other businesses. Bookmark this page – or even better, add it to the toolbar on your internet browser – for fast and easy access to our online shopping links.

Amazon purchases generate funds from items placed in your shopping cart when you enter Amazon.com through this link or by clicking on the Amazon button on the right. We average at least a 6% return on these purchases and raised over $4,000 in our first year of operation. Help us keep the momentum going! Any questions about this program? Contact us at collegeprepamazon@college-prep.org.

eScrip’s Online Mall can be reached through this link, or by clicking on the eScrip button on the right. You will find many of your favorite merchants there, and if you enter through this link, you don’t even need to be enrolled in eScrip for your purchases to earn contributions for the school.

You may also check out www.onecause.com, and enroll to support College Prep.

Do you buy groceries at a participating store?

Our largest source of funds is grocery purchases made through the eScrip program. Contributions flow automatically from Safeway (and Pak N Save) when the Safeway Rewards card number is enrolled with eScrip. Contributions from other markets, such as Lunardi’s, Piedmont Grocery, Diablo Foods, Mollie Stones, and Planet Organics, result when you use a credit or debit card you have enrolled with eScrip. Family and friends in other locales can participate through Safeway’s associated stores, Vons and Pavilions. See instructions below for signing up.

Do you eat out?

eScrip’s “Dining Rewards Network” generates contributions from participating restaurants when you use a  credit or debit card enrolled with eScrip. There are literally thousands of restaurants in this program – last year we received contributions from over 70 different establishments, ranging from pizza parlors to ethnic restaurants to fine dining and clubs.

Do you shop at Target?

In addition to a 5% discount on your purchases and free shipping on online orders, purchases made using one of Target’s red cards can direct a 1% donation to the school, though Target’s “Take Charge of Education” program. Find out more and enroll your card at www.target.com/tcoe.

How to enroll in eScrip:

Participating merchants contribute a percentage of your purchase when you shop using an enrolled credit or ATM/debit card. Safeway shoppers generate contributions by enrolling their Safeway rewards card.

To enroll, go to www.escrip.com.

  • Click on the "sign up" button, and enter "The College Preparatory School" as the group you would like to support.
  • Have your Safeway and other credit/debit cards handy. If you are a Safeway shopper, you need to enter your Safeway card number – NOT your telephone number, although you may continue to use your phone number when you shop. If you have misplaced your Safeway Club Card, you may retrieve your number from Safeway at 877-723-3929, or apply at the store for a replacement card.
  • If you would like help with registration or Safeway card number issues, contact Laurie Dornbrand at 510-547-7950 or escrip@college-prep.org. If you have your card numbers available we can enroll you over the phone in less than 5 minutes.

FAQ

Q

I don’t shop at Safeway or the other markets you mentioned. So what’s the point of enrolling in eScrip?

A

If you enroll your credit/debit cards in eScrip and happen to shop in a participating merchant or eat in a participating restaurant, purchases you make will automatically generate contributions. One parent was surprised to learn that he had generated a contribution of $30 from hosting a business dinner at a restaurant in NYC. See a list of currently participating merchants at www.escrip.com, but remember that these change and new ones are periodically added.

Q

How about Lucky? Trader Joe's? Costco? Berkeley Bowl?

A

These stores do not participate in scrip programs.

Q

Is there an enrollment fee?

A

eScrip deducts an administrative fee from program revenues. There is no charge to supporters.

Q

I'm enrolled for another organization. Can I support more than one group?

A

You may support up 3 groups with eScrip. If you have established an eScrip password you may add or change groups supported online via the “account administration” option of “my eScrip.” Some parents have had difficulty doing this, especially if they don’t have a current email address registered with eScrip to which a password can be sent. We’d be happy to assist. Contact us by phone or email escrip@college-prep.org and we’ll take care of the rest.

Q

What about family members and friends?

A

eScrip and the online shopping links are great ways for grandparents and grandfriends to support the school. We’d be delighted to help enroll them.

Q

How do the online shopping alternatives differ?

A

Amazon shoppers can generate contributions for the school by going to Amazon through the link on our website – no enrollment required.
Likewise entering the eScrip mall through our web site does not require enrolling in eScrip to generate contributions from the participating merchants.
There is considerable overlap in merchant coverage between the eScrip online mall and OneCause. If you have favorite merchants, take a look at both sites and compare the program details.

Here are some differences:
•OneCause requires that your entire contribution be directed to a single school, whereas eScrip revenues are divided among the organizations you have designated, up to three. Thus if you want to spread the contributions around, you should use the eScrip mall.
•eScrip’s AutoEARN only works on a PC, whereas the OneCause toolbar can be installed on either a PC or a Mac. This may change, but for the present time Mac users who want to take advantage of this convenience might prefer OneCause.
