Cross Country – Lowell Invitational

The XC racing season has officially started and what a fun start for our team! This first race of the season, and for many Prep harriers of their high school career, unfolded in brilliant fashion in a beautiful Golden Gate Park setting. Cloudy with temperatures in the low 60s offered perfect racing conditions. The damp, muddy conditions in Hellman Hollow (aka Speedway Meadow) made sure that the harriers had to contend with true cross-country uncertainty. Invitationals are meant to be fun and open up new opportunities for challenges and exposure to teams not generally seen in league and other D5 meets. This course and meet did not fail to offer these experiences.

As expected there were some "nerves" to contend with—the starting lines were packed for all races, and some teams were huge. From our first race where our Boys Frosh team got their feet wet (literally and figuratively) against larger and fairly formidable teams, our teams impressed with very strong early season performances and showed that their commitment to pulling up their sleeves and working hard in practice pays off. It is often hard to gauge personal progress in these large meets, but our teams' performances were strong across the board. Our early season time trial and mock team meet provided a benchmark for comparison and uniformly yesterday's results equaled or exceeded the earlier marks.
