Prep Talk Featuring Ty Alper

In our community PrepTalk, Ty Alper discusses the modern application of the death penalty in the United States and the ways in which various states decide the fate of prisoners on death row. He shares statistics and his personal opinions, and asks the audience to reflect on today's use of the death penalty as an effective punishment.

Ty is a native of Berkeley and a social justice lawyer and law professor at UC Berkeley Law where he trains and supervises law students who assist in the representation of prisoners on death row in a variety of states—including California and the deep South.

Previously Ty was a staff attorney at the Southern Center for Human Rights in Atlanta, and in November 2014 was elected to a four-year term on the Berkeley School Board where he hopes to ensure all students receive the educational services they deserve.
