Information from BART -

Effective January 1, 2018:
  • All customers ages 5 years through 18 years old will be recognized as "youth" and able to access the youth discount of 50% on BART.
  • Discount fare will be available to the riderusing a Youth Clipper card - same discount that is currently provided via the orange ticket.
  • Discount will be available all hours, seven days per week (unlike the orange ticket which prohibits travel on Saturdays and Sundays).
  • Value can be loaded onto the card through retail vendors, by phone, online, by autoload, and at BART station ticket machines).

All trips taken on any paper BART ticet will icur a fifty cent ($0.50) per ride surcharge. There is no surcharge when a Clipper card is used for BART travel.

What does this mean? It means that "youth" on BART will be through age eighteen like all other Bay Area public transit systems. It means that one possessing a Youth Clipper card has seamless access to discount travel on most participating public transit systems in the Bay Area. Students can get the discount on BART withough having to order tickets through the School. One can reload value onto the card anytime and can ride at a discount every day.

This change does not begin until January 1, 2018. Orange Tickets will still remain available for purchase through June 30,l 2018. After January 1, 2018 ticket users will be assessed a fifty cent surcharge, on each trip taken with a paper ticket. Youth Clipper card applications are available at Clippercard.com.
