Learning in Community. Trust amongst the students, and with their teachers, creates possibility for deep exploration through taking chances.
Questions Before Answers. A masterful teacher sets high expectations so students can engage their own curiosity and push themselves, and each other, to new and greater levels of understanding.
Collaboration. The communication, and potentially the struggle, to work out an explanation are exactly the point. It is the process of figuring out the question that is the benefit, not the answer.
Active Learning. Sometimes learning looks a lot like play. Students work through challenging material by engaging with it directly.
Mentorship. Mentors guide, encourage, and challenge students and are a key ingredient to the education experience.
Meaningful Feedback. Learning happens best when students receive immediate feedback. Sometimes this is graded work, but daily it is more like affirming comments, quietly leaning over a desk to identify a job well done, or encouraging someone to try something new.
