Why did you choose College Prep?
The community! The College Prep community is truly special and uniquely different from anything I've experienced before. When visiting CPS, I saw all the students were motivated to learn and accepting of their peers. I also knew that I wanted to go to school where the teachers cared about the process of learning more than just getting correct answers, which is exactly what I've found here.

What advice would you give to 8th graders applying to high school?
It's all about fit. Remember that it isn't just the school choosing you, but you are also selecting the school. If you feel that your application reflects who you are as a student and a person, then it can be easier to reflect and see what you are looking for in a high school.

What's the biggest difference between middle school and high school?
You are more responsible with how to use your time. Since College Prep is so close to Rockridge, free time can be spent grabbing food with friends during a free block. At school, there are always club meetings going on, some sport being played in the gym, and dozens of interesting conversations to take part in. These opportunities, on top of the ever-present work load, mean that there is never a dull moment, but you have to manage time better than in middle school.

What is your favorite place on campus?
The bench at the top of campus. There are three wooden steps that overlook a lawn and the main walkway. It's a great place to relax and people watch. There's a small stream nearby that offers white noise, completing the experience :)

What is your best College Prep memory?
Freshman year spirit week! This was one of the first times I saw our entire school united, everyone crammed into the gym and decked out in their grade's dress up color. In that moment, wearing the same type of clothes as my classmates, I truly felt a sense of belonging.

Three unusual things about you:
1. I am left-handed and goofy-footed.
2. My full name is Amiko!
3. I can touch my nose with my tongue
ps. I bet you're trying to do #3 right now ;)
