Hunter College, City University of New York, MS Ed
Sofia University, MA
What did you study in college?
BA in Psychology, MS Ed in School Counseling, MA in Transpersonal Psychology (Creative Expression), and a Dance Education Teaching Credential.
What was your pathway to teaching?
I returned to dance through Zumba after stepping away from ballet and modern. The joy and community drew me back. A Zumba teacher asked me to sub while she was on maternity leave. That inspired me to get certified, and I started teaching while working full-time as a school counselor.
I moved to the Bay Area, earned a new degree, and began teaching Diaspora Dance—a fusion of Afro-diasporic styles and technical foundations. I taught in studios, camps, preschools, and eventually landed a full-time middle school job. I was thrilled to return to high school teaching at College Prep.
How do you bring your personal passions into the classroom?
Dance helped me heal and reconnect with joy after burnout—and I bring that energy to my teaching. I build confidence and community, helping students shift from pressure to self-expression.
I teach technique not to fit a mold, but to give students tools to amplify their own voice. My goal is for every student to feel alive, connected, and seen.
What do you love about teaching College Prep students?
CPS students are kind, expressive, and eager to try new things. They cheer each other on and give thoughtful feedback.
One student was ready to quit dance after freshman year, but gave it one more try. He stuck with it, became a lead choreographer for Guys Dance, and built a space of confidence and creativity. He even reached out over summer to keep growing—an incredible journey I feel honored to witness.
What is your favorite College Prep tradition?
Choreo Series, our student-led dance showcase. Students handle everything—choreo, lighting, directing—with care and artistry. It inspires me every year, and I leave rehearsals with new creative sparks.
What's something most people don't know about you?
I’m a proud plant mom and science nerd. I love learning about plant intelligence, fungi, herbal medicine, and sustainable energy. Also: I’m a huge sci-fi fan—especially Octavia Butler and Nnedi Okorafor.
If you could make an everyday activity into an Olympic sport, what would you win a medal in?
Craft project hoarding. My linen closet is a shrine to abandoned art kits. I once co-led an Intraterm where students made handmade care packages with those supplies—maybe they’ll finish what I started!
Anything else you’d like to share?
I’m so happy to be part of this community. For me, dance is about connection and joy—and at College Prep, I get to help students find that too. The dance classroom reflects the world I want to see: one where care, creativity, and transformation are essential.
