We are so excited that you are joining our community next year!
This page has important information about registering for upcoming course selection and placement test sessions as well as completing required forms for the coming school year. There is also an invitation to our new student gathering in April, as well as introductions from our Athletic Director, the Director of Learning Services, and the College Prep Parents' Association.
If you have any questions about the items below, please contact the Admission Office at admissions@college-prep.org or 510.652.4364.
All incoming ninth graders are required to attend a virtual course selection session and take an in-person math placement test. Students who wish to pursue a language they are already studying have the option of taking a world language placement test.
Students who plan to take both the math placement test and a world language placement test may do so on the same day or on different days based on family preference. Students can attend course selection either before or after taking their placement tests. The order does not matter.
Registration for these events is available via theapplication portal, at the top of the College Prep application steps. For support with scheduling, please contact the Admission Office at 510.652.4364 oradmissions@college-prep.org.
Course Selection Session (Required)
Prior to online course selection, students should read theCourse Selection Guide, which includes all of the information needed to choose classes. Students should also make sure that they are able to log into our Community Portal by following these instructions. In order to answer questions and demonstrate the course selection process, administrators will host small-group Zoom sessions for students that last 60 - 75 minutes. Please sign up via the application portal.
Math Placement Test (Required)
All students are required to take a math placement test to determine the math course (Math 1 or Math 2) that will best support their learning. The one hour test will be administered at College Prep. While there is no official study guide, the following list outlines the general topics covered on the math placement exam. Students who demonstrate mastery on the math placement test will be invited back at a later date (April 26 or May 3) for a second math placement test to assess their readiness for Math 3 or beyond. Please sign up via the application portal. Calculators are not allowed on the test; students need only pencils for this exam.
World Languages Placement Test (Optional)
World languages placement tests (offered in Latin, Mandarin-Chinese, and Spanish) are designed to match students with the course level that will best support their learning. Students do not need to sign up for a language placement test if they wish to begin in a level I course.
There are two components to most language placement tests: a written exam and a spoken conversation with a College Prep instructor. Please sign up via the application portal.
We will be hosting a New Student Welcome on Sunday, April 27, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and encourage all ninth graders to attend. Welcome to College Prep! You have chosen a remarkable school, and I’m looking forward to getting to know you in the coming years.
As the Director of Learning Services at College Prep, one of the things I’m most proud of is that our school offers so many resources to support all students in their learning, ranging from peer tutors in every academic discipline, to our math and science support specialist, to the individualized support I offer with executive functioning, self-advocacy, and strategies for effective studying, test-taking, and learning.
While I’m available to meet with all students, I also provide support for students with diagnosed learning differences and work closely with teachers, advisors, and administrators to provide accommodations and academic support that will help students with learning differences thrive in high school and beyond.
If you have used classroom accommodations in middle school (e.g., extended time, preferred seating, use of a computer for in-class writing assessments) and you believe you will need similar support in high school, please submit copies of educational evaluations and assessments via email by Monday, April 21 so that we can schedule a meeting to discuss your learning profile. Doing so will ensure that everyone on your academic team–including teachers, advisors, and the Academic Dean–is aware of your strengths and challenges so that we can best support you.
If you have any questions about how we support students, please feel free to reach out to me so that we can schedule a time to connect before the school year or anytime during your academic journey at College Prep.
We are excited to have you join our team as the newest College Prep Cougars. Our interscholastic sports teams and our Recreation, Health & Fitness (RHF) programs offer students a variety of physical activities to engage in while encouraging healthy lifestyles.
Students on any of our 25 teams across 10 different sports experience the spirit and joy of representing College Prep in interscholastic competition as they grow their skills and bond with their teammates.

We are confident that our program offers something for everyone—experienced athletes and beginners alike. Families will receive emails to sign up for team sports using Final Forms. During course selection, students will be asked to list which sports they will likely play during the coming year. These sign-ups are not binding but help the Athletics Department with planning and staffing. Please visit our website for more details about our interscholastic athletic and RHF programs and be sure to read the Athletics Student-Parent Handbook.
We are looking forward to you joining our College Prep team! Go Cougars!
Parents and guardians are an important part of the College Prep Community. Through the Parents' Association we make connections, discover new friends, and use our skills, interests, and talents to benefit our students and the broader school community.
Whether serving as a Class Representative, volunteering to organize the Spring Benefit, planning potlucks, parties or book clubs, many College Prep parents and guardians find volunteering with the PA is a great opportunity to get to know other families.
If you would like to share more about your interest and skills, please fill out this brief survey. Thank you!
